When The HDD Goes Pffutt!
For the first time in this site’s short history, I have missed blogging on two consecutive days.
Well I was forced to because the HDD decided to take a weekend timeout (boot_volume problem) and no amount of disk recovery freeware could recover the FAT because the freeware applications do not operate from DOS. This is compounded by an inadequate DOS HELP. The list of commands it displays is incomplete.
I was not looking forward to calling Dell’s service centre either and because we’d reached the conclusion that we’d have to reformat the HDD what the hell, let’s give CHDISK and FDISK a go.
We started CHDISK and at midnigtish lastnight it finished its routine and guess what? The Dell was fully functional again.
So here we are again. What’s been happening?

chkdsk actually works?on a dell?
Thats something i want to remember for our pieces of crap here at the office…
