Vist CERN with Robert Scoble

Watch Ben Segal and Jean-Francois Groff take Robert on a tour of the CERN site and just happen to pass by the office of Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of HTML.

Ben argued in the web’s early days for CERN to adopt TCP/IP. Luckily they did. The web was invented there. I Googled Ben Segal and this is his bio. Very interesting. He is clever. Very clever.

At CERN since 1971, always working in computer communications. Active in the Internet area at CERN since the early 1980’s; officially coordinated the introduction of the Internet protocols at CERN (1985-1988). Have taught Internet protocols since 1986 in many “developing” countries including China, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Russia, Venezuela - plus some “more developed” ones including Switzerland, Italy and Sweden.

Since 1990, responsible for the high-speed Network Services in the CERN Computer Centre, supporting the Centrally Operated RISC Environment (”CORE”), a distributed computing system that today performs essentially all CERN’s off-line physics analysis instead of the IBM and Cray mainframes that used to do this until recently.

Member of the Internet Society since July 1994. A founder member (now vice-president) of the Geneva ISOC Chapter, which started up in spring 1995 - current membership about 450. Founder and Chair of its Development Special Interest Group - over 100 current members. Apart from its interest in Internet for development (including economic and cultural aspects), the Geneva Chapter also has a thriving Business Special Interest Group, an Educational Special Interest Group, and many contacts with the region’s International Organizations, multinational companies and small and medium enterprises; it has also worked hard to assist the startup of other international ISOC

Mmmm would be Geek Paradise? Even for me, a non-geek, it looked too enticing to not post here.
