Back then when it started to become the rage, I was one of the sheep to charge off to get my profile created at all the new rage social network sites. I rushed to Facebook, Twitter, Jaiku, MySpace even Pownce was graced by me.
Why?
Dunno actually. It just seemed like the in-thing to do, so I followed the crowd.
And was it worth it?
Nope. Not one bit. I have derived zero benefit and cannot be arsed to spend the required time to ‘build’ a network with complete but apparently likeminded strangers.
So you did not bother?
Oh I did but not at all in the required way.
Don’t you think that had you applied yourself appropriately, you’d be reaping the benefits now?
Oh fuck off! What is more ‘appropriate’ is the amount of time I lose for blogging while I’m having to spend time fending off pimply faced 17 yr old strangers who want to be my “friend” at Facebook.
Will you carry on using the social networks you mentioned above?
No. They distract me from blogging. Composing an article that either entertains or imparts something to the reader is way too important than hanging out at FB. And also, FBers don’t seem to impart any knowledge that I can use. It appears to me that these networks are superficial and act as gathering places to be seen at and brag about the D&G sunglasses copies you bought for a tenner in Ibeza. Not classy inspiring stuff is it?!
No, these networks are not for me. They are junkyards for the dimwitted designer brand aware yoof. Long may the sites grow and earn the developers megabucks. Just please keep the FBer, Twitter, MySpace,Pownce and Jaiku dimwits corralled at these sites. Don’t let them out to pester me.
[UPDATE #2 10/8/07] Earlier today I closed down my Facebook account.
I can report that as at 18:12 GMT, I have not used a single Kleenex, nor shed a miniscule droplet of valued moisture from any of my 3 eyes, felt no pangs to return to FB nor have I tried to slit my wrists, asked to be seperated from the rest of humanity, get incarcerated in a padded cell, placed on suicide watch nor had my Aspirins confiscated. But, hey, it is early days yet.
[UPDATE 10/8/07] Thanks to Andries for pointing out the glaring error I made yesterday. Fatique does silly things. Anyway - Tweeter is now corrected to Twitter. Apologies.
Err, maybe Tweeter was a more appropriate name. Brands better than Twitter. “Hi I am a Tweeter”. “Oh hi, I am a Twitter”. Yes, Tweeter was better.

Bwahaaha! Jawelnofine. I have to keep the Zen up, of that I am adament. I could not remain focussed on blogging (some will be cursing and saying shame..!) which I find to be the greater challenge.
Making connections will occur via the blog articles. And they’ll be quality, robust aquaintances unlike the 17yr old “I need as many ‘friends’ as possible to prove I am yummy” flaky shallow FB variety.
All I am doing is exercising my preferences. Nothing more nothing less. As I said, long may FB and ilk prosper.
And besides, if I FBed and Twitted and Jaiku’d and MySpaced I’d not have any energy left to humour you all. And while the big cats are busy FBing, MySpacing, Jaikuing and Twittering away us little blogosphere mice can play to our heart’s content! :=)
Hmm,.. tweeter and R’saboutfacebook are tools tho, like usenet and email,.. and WebLogz and Wikii’z,… and biggazoombahs.com,.. it is in the intergration and consolidation of all of these that you shall find peace and forgiveness to your hasty words,..
now please go and blog 5 hail MaxKaizens and consider the consequences of your actions online,..
