Below is a video I took on my Sony W850i of a small section of the flooded A34. The movie does not really capture the depth of the water on the opposite Northbound carriageway.
The point of this movie is that not 45 minutes earlier, I had driven nothbound over this exact section and not a drop of water was near the motorway. The water had flowed down from the hills to flood the carriageway while I was at B&Q.
This past weekend I went through a village that had been in the epicentre of the Berkshire flooding. No river or reservoir burst its banks to cause the extensive damage. The torrents of water flowed from the hills surrounding the village. The rush of the water was so severe, it stripped the tar covering off the roads leading into the village.
See below pictures of Aldermaston shop being flooded, while one of my favourite pubs, The Four Points, gets very wet. The Four Points does a lovely steak and chips!
Check out Vodafone’s HQ! This is the entrance to Vodafone’s main reception at their global HQ nearby. Newbury station was flooded too. No trains for the duration!
