The free prize. Seth Godin wrote a book about it. He called it “Free Prize Inside”. Buy it. I did and now I am perplexed. Anxious and fidgety too. What free prize can iScatterlings give you?
The more I think about it, the more confused I become. I mean I know I am meant to provide you with a free prize and I very much want to. It’s the ‘what’ that is getting to me.
Just when it dawns on you that what Seth says has so much incredible validity and what he writes about and theorises on fires up the “Seth’s right and I need to” thoughts, all innovation flies out the window. Like a fart bag. The expulsion of innovation sounds rude. And it is isn’t it?
In a trice and just like that in the blink of an eye, my personal dam of hope made up of inspiration, proactivity, positive wellbeing, promise, action hero intentions and creativity deflates in a loud fart!
And metaphorically speaking, I’m left standing stoop-shouldered, downcast, helpless and hopeless outside on the sidewalk without an umbrella in the drizzle holding a soggy and disintergrating Free Prize coupon. For what?
Cars and multi-axeled trucks speed past through puddles collecting alongside the sidewalk causing waves of cold muddy rainwater to splash up over me. Not nice. I stand there thinking, “they are aiming for the puddles on purpose. The swines. Am I really deserving of such a sodden outcome to what afterall is supposed to bring sunshine, contentment, love, innovation, respect and smiles back onto your faces”?
No. No, I am not deserving of such desertion of innovation and neither am I deserving of being a somewhat damp wimp. I’m going back inside to present my Free Prize coupon and claim my own free prize from Seth Godin’s book. Yes, that is where the answer lies and bugger this sidewalk, the puddles, the drenching drizzle and feeling uninspired.
Whatever the free prize is meant to be will be. Because as Seth says, “no organisation ever created an innovation. People innovate, not companies” and so my moment will come in a flash of inspiration and at last I shall have the idea, the concept, all the right stuff to create a free prize for you. Yeah baby! Let’s get inside.
And there perhaps is Seth’s free prize for me? To stop whining and get on with stuff that will feed the seed of creation within. Ta da!
Thanks Seth.

I think you need to start small with prizes. Hey, I did recently. I am also offering more free shirts.
Think that they work well, the give-aways.
But trying to “buy” your users won’t work in the long run. Needs to be participatory I think.
Hey Nic,
Mmm I don?t want to buy my audience. The quality and merit of my content will hopefully do that alone.
The Free Prize I want to give away, is one that you and all readers can take away after reading one of my pieces. The prize is knowledge. If I insert some content that you never never knew before, and accept it as knowledge not known previously and derive benefit from knowing it, then I have succeeded in providing a free prize to you.
My free prize is an intangible. It is knowledge, he says crossing all fingers and hoping not to sound like the arrogant pig I am!
Seriously, there is a lot of conceit in what we put down in writing and if the ultimate aim of bloggers is to only impart knowledge then it becomes dictatorial/classroom style rather than an entertaining medium from which to pass on a tidbit of knowledge here and there. We all learn stuff in one of the VAKOG ways. Not all humans accept and intake knowledge the same single way. I like visual and oral combined. More visual. Others may prefer only audio.
So if my articles impart something of value to the reader, then I succeed too.
Giving away t-shirts is bribery isn?t it? Where is the bribery police when you need them?!!
I feel terrible that I made you so perplexed!
The free prize is the extra, the unexpected bonus that isn’t about utility. Don’t sweat it…
