Rule #22 - Ooze the Penitent

If this is your first visit at iScatterlings, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

[Inspired by the act of penitence carried out last month by former member of the apartheid Natianal Party government, the Minister of Defence and Minister for Law and Order, Mr Adriaan Vlok. Vlok was security minister in the late 1980s, a period when emergency laws granted police sweeping powers of arrest and detention against anti-apartheid activists. In an act of contrition he washed the feet of Rev Frank Chikane]

EXPLANATION: for those who do not understand Afrikaans:
Adriaan is advised that a Zulu army (impi) wants to have their feet washed. They’d heard what he had done and thought , Hell, while in government, he tried hard to kill us lot so what the heck - he can do a free sole wash!! [pun intended])

Adriaan replies, “They must wait! I am still busy washing Mandela’s feet.

Mandela pipes up, “Adriaan, use Dove soap not Lifeboy!”

[Reference to a carbolic soap brand in S Africa named Lifeboy and also reference to Vlok's former Ministerial role as Minister of Law & Order - ie A life sentence on Robben Island. So seperate them they can be heard as ...."life boy!" As in judgement.]

I’ve always been told that forgiveness is good for the sole.
