There I was minding my own when the photo above leapt at me. It is a fabulous photo of a vineyard in the Barossa Valley, Australia.
So what I hear you ask, has it got to with Stormhoek?
Nothing really.
But wait a minute, there is a link. Yes, it’s a tenuous winey vintner type of link to Cape Town because nearby, (as in closer than 1,000kms is deemed to be ‘nearby’ in Australia!) down the valley toward Adelaide, my sister lives on a small farm and grows Proteas which she exports to places outside Australia. South Africa is one country she sells to. Yes, like coals to Newcastle, ice to Eskimos, my sister keeps the home country flush with Proteas! My sister went to Star of The Sea Convent at St James, Cape Town who I am certain would be proud of her!
So there you are. A wine themed photo, a convent and South Africa’s national flower creates a story. Aren’t I just too good! It’s a small story but it has its roots at the Cape as does Stormhoek out near Wellington. And to cap this tale off, the company I worked for had a branch at Wellington and I used to be a frequent visitor there from our Rondebosch head office. The drive there and back was tremendous.
And now back to how you can help Stormhoek. Why don’t you engage the Own a Vine. Save a Job campaign? We are asking you to dig deep into your Big Love for SA wines and help keep the affected Stormhoek region vineyards operating. How? By buying a Stormhoek vine.
