It’s already cold and dark outside. And it is only 6:35pm. The sound of traffic passing by the house adds to the wintery atmosphere. As does the tiny table lamp. It provides a warmish glow and one of the cats has jumped up and settled underneath it to catch some of the warmth the lightbulb emits.
Temba is the hunter and leaves the offal of his kill on the kitchen floor. He leaves it at the same spot whenever he has a successful hunt in a spot just where I step into the kitchen on cold dark mornings just after 05:30am. Yuck!
His favourite sleeping place is in the conservatory on the music stool butted up against a radiator for maximum warmth or on the top of the sofa back again beneath a standard lamp beside the sofa for the heat it gives off while underneath against the wall is a radiator pumping the heat. He loves the heat.
Shaka vacilates between the sofa in the lounge or the back of my armchair, or in the conservatory on a wooden chair at the dining table or in his cardboard box with blankets. He is not too fussed by needing to feel the heat from the radiators.
Shaka spends the nights indoors while his brother goes hunting in the dark cold night.
