I was one of the lucky few to be invited to see the final cut of David Mackenzie’s new movie called Hallam Foe. This is David’s latest film since his 2003 film called Young Adam with Ewan McGregor.
Jamie Bell stars as deeply troubled Hallam Foe. Jamie is best remembered for his outstanding performance in 2000’s Billy Elliot.

Six years on, to say that Jamie has come of age is putting it mildly. He rocks and clearly relishes the role. In Hallam, he shows us his depth of acting talent and his ability to dip into the actor’s toolbox and deliver a winning performance to camera is something I’d expect of a decades older and more experienced actor. He is wonderful in this role.
Jamie’s love interest in the movie is beautiful co-star Sophia Myles who plays Katie, the HR colleague at Hallam’s place of work.
That Katie is a dead ringer for Hallam’s dead mother adds another dark dimension to the movie that is explored and resolved. Sophia delivers a superb performance that compliments and enhances Jamie’s character. And she gives us a range of hot and passionate to cool and icy menace.
Sophia and Jamie deliver inspired performances aided by David’s great direction.
David’s direction had me wondering where this story was going. In my opinion he deliberately disrupts the flow you think it should take, throws you off the emotional track then yanks you back into what you think the storyline is with some excellent scripting and even more great camerawork.
I was thrilled by the movie. The conclusion was superb. Any other ending would have done the entire piece a great disservice.
Do yourselves a favour - go see it when it gets released in August. It is a must.

I second your opinion. It was a fine night and getting to meet you in the flesh only served to explain why you have generated an online following amongst the female bloggers of Africa.
Yes, you did get to observe this fine six-packed adonis of a man and his fine athletic aqualine physique glide smoothly among the womenfolk oozing charm, intellect, dispensing humour, warmth of personality, unbridled sexual overtones, sharp razorlike wit, sparkle and all the while reluctantly deflecting the multitudes of womens’ offers to spawn my sprogs!
I wish………!
Bwahaahaa!
Rob - a super summary, and great to connect up and chat with you about your Chapter 11 battle scars.
Ben,
It was so splendid to meet you and learn that between us we held the Chaper 11 Trifecta. HAd we known, we might have placed a few bob on it working out that way.
Well at least you did not “narf narf ” at my Jonah and the whale metaphore!
Thanks for the cokes and I did get onto your site today but was rudely interrupted. So I’ll pass by later tonight or this weekend to complete my reading.
Be well
Robert
Dear Adonis,
I hate to burst your bulging six-pack…but the first time I stumbled upon your blog, I thought you were a woman! Had I known you were Gods gift to women in Africa, I would have left far wittier and more eloquent comments. Lol.
The movie sounds good - too bad its going to take forever to get to SA! Or at least, onto a TV channel in my bundu-bound town. Unless it stars Jean Claude van Damme or Steven Segal, it isn’t going to feature in our video shop either. I’ll keep scouring Kalahari.net for the DVD release.
Gillian,

don’t feel bad darling, I thought he was batting for the other team!
Jeez you girls need to visit a Psycho The Rapist…………??!
