The Memorandum, an age old office document condemned to fossil status when it quietly faded from use and out of our collective memories just a few years ago. Sad day when I wrote my last one.
Well it’s back!
I’m bringing back realtime human interaction and have written a memo. I then xeroxed 46 copies and have walked to each desk of the people I have cc’d on it and handed it to all bar 7 who are on leave. Guess what - I had never met 9 of the people I had previously engaged via email. They were mostly sat on the 2nd floor below me and I never knew it! Disgusting state of affairs or what?! The best bit about today has been the walkabout. Yes I got some exercise done!!
And walking is not as scary a thing to do as a lot of people would have you believe. Oh no. It is even fun at times when you bump into someone you know who is also WALKING! Wow! I didn’t know people walked at the office.
So who else wants to learn how to write a memorandum?

What is it about? What is this ‘passion’ we are supposed to espouse daily about our work, our career our customers, the company and stuff?
Where did this notion that I need ‘passion’ first arise? Who was the person that kickstarted this ludicrous proposition that the workforce needs ‘passion’ to make the wheels of industry grind along with less noise and turn an easier profit for the fatcats?
Bring me the head of the fuckwit who coined this phrase because I want him or her to see how much ‘passion’ Financial Directors wield when it comes time to RIF (Reduction in Force) staff and in turn to attend a gathering of ex-staff who have lost their jobs due to the ‘passionate’ demands of the fatcats wanting “scales of economy” to bring about increased ROI and most ‘passionately’ of all - a fatter bonus payout.
Anytime you want to talk to me about ‘passion’ it better be around about bedtime. Otherwise go whistle in the wind because that word means nowt to me at work.
